SIGBIO China Workshop: Critical Issues in Bioinformatics and Biomedicine

The exponential growth in the amount of biological, medical, behavioral or health data has necessitated the use of computers for information cataloging and retrieval, while a more global perspective in the quest for new insights into health and disease and the resulting data mining also underscore the need for bioinformatics and biomedicine. As an interdisciplinary field of science, bioinformatics and biomedicine combines mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering, biology, medicine, and behavioral science. The primary goal of this field is to increase the understanding of biological processes by developing and applying computationally intensive technique, and then devise new strategies for diagnosis and therapy. Recently, the field of bioinformatics and biomedicine has experienced rapid growth. However, as a young disciplines, it still faces many critical issues, such as creation and advancement of algorithms, computational and statistical techniques, and theory to solve formal and practical problems arising from the analysis of biological data; biomedical intelligence and biomarker discovery for reliable prediction, diagnosis and therapy of psychological and physiological diseases; development and implementation of tools that enable efficient biological data mining, computational modeling and visualization, etc. This workshop aims to provide a world's premier forum of renowned researchers to share their insightful opinions and discuss current and future key issues in bioinformatics and biomedicine. The workshop will feature in three types of sessions including keynotes, invited talks and panel discussion.
